The Food Adventure Guide: Where To Eat In Singapore
http://www.singapore-restaurant.com/foodies/about902.html
As owner of Singapore’s wildly popular restaurant-chain, Crystal Jade Culinary Concept Holdings has a lot to boast on. The group has restaurants and bakeries in the city, Singapore Changi Airport and the suburbs, including Jurong, Woodlands, Toa Payoh, Holland Village, Tampines and Yishun. The group also has restaurants in many Asian countries, including Malaysia, Thailand, Hong Kong, People’s Republic of China, Japan, Vietnam and South Korea.
Aside from specialized outlets such as C-Jade Express or the Korean outlet, Crystal Jade restaurants are well known for the Cantonese dim sum such as Xiao Long Bao and many other light delicacies. For a more substantial meal, choose from a wide range of congee and noodles with ingredients ranging from duck, chicken, fish, meatballs and even abalone. Drinks served include fresh juices, soft drinks and Chinese tea.

I agree that the food in CJ is excellent. I had tried many so called “Hong Kong Style Cafe”, but their food were terrible and service were bad (imagine 20 mins for a drink and 30 mins for toast).
However, I had a very bad experience with CJ @ Parkway. Their service were very bad. I went last week during one of the afternoon for collection of take away food where it was non-peak. I stand at the entrance for 10 mins and no one serve me. I bet their staffs (those in black uniform) did saw me, but non of them attend to me. I was so frustrated and call one of them, she kind of respond me but walk away. I called that second staff and finally he handed me the food.
If you had went to CJ @ Parkway before, the entrance is quite a narrow one, but if you stand there, i am sure you can be spot. In addition, there should be someone standing at the entrance in the first place.
If I was not really time rushing, I would have stand there and scold them. CJ used to be very good in their service. However, in my opinion, ever since they expand and dominate the market, their service starts to get worsen. I hoped they realised that customer service is very important in F&B industry. Sigh~

I could not agree more with what Jason Ng commented dated 2nd April 2007. I have been to various Crystal Jade restaurants but each time the service were such a let-down. I have even tried calling the head office and “highlight” the on-going issues with the management, but it seems the ground staff and the administrative staff are blocking out all feedbacks and complaints to the top management.
One of my worst experience were at Crystal Jade Xiao Long Bao in Jurong Point. The manager on duty could not even tell me who their General Manager is/was.
And the service at Crystal Jade Kitchen (B2 at Takashimaya) is another place of “see you no up” attitude. The staff would only be attentive to the tai tais and simply frown on “normal” folks like myself.
And I have also noticed that the group had a tendency to engage the older generation folks to work. Not that I am discouraging them to rejoin the workforce, in fact I welcome them, but the training and attitude must and should surely improve and goes in line with the service industry.
Comon’ we ain’t paying peanuts for “some reasonably priced hawker fare”.
Sorry Resto, I know this might not be the place to “complain” but would definitely helps if you know a channel where folks like myself could “send in ” to voice our “concerns”
Cheers!

Crystal Jade NO MORE
I have never been a big fan of crystal jade. But I decided to go down anyway. I headed down to the branch at Paragon. There was a usual q of about 4 groups of people at the entrance.
So I approached the counter and said hi to the “nice” young lady at the counter. She looked up at me briefly and mumbled in chinese “how many people?” before going back to her work. And I said “for 2″. While still burying her face in her booking list she mumbled again “whats your name” and I said Mr Yao…… she did not look up.
Then assuming that she did not hear me I repeated my name, this time in English. Still no response. Then she just scribbled a number on a menu card and just lifed it off the table slightly without even looking at me and expected me to take it from her hand. I was so ticked off I took the card from her and asked my girlfriend, Do you still want to eat her, and she said it is ok, “I LOST MY APPETITE JUST LOOKING AT HER!”
The end. No more Crystal Jade for me. Frankly the food is not all that great too. We ended up eating SOBA from the Japanese resturant next door and the service was a Thousand times better.
Please carry on and patronise Crystal Jade if you like to pay to be treated like crap.

Being a Westie, i like to patronise Crystal Jade at Holland because it’s near my home. I patronise it at least 2 times a month and even recommended my school reunion dinner to be done there. However, the standard of food has dropped drastically in Crystal Jade Holland V. I remembered this day in end March that i ordered a plate of fried rice with some double-boiled sharks’ fins soup. My fried rice came fried with stredded eggs and no ingredients! When i enquired from the captains at work, they rebutt saying that you ordered fried rice so we gave you rice fried with egg lor! From that day on, i didnt patronise that outlet anymore.

I highly recommend Crystal Jade Restaurant Group to open a branch in Compass Point of Sengkang (Singapore). I like Yum Cha very much. Every weekend our family and my friend also want to go to Crystal Jade. But sadly, there is no branch in Sengkang area.
Given increasing population in Sengkang district, with many young families, and people here are inclined to enjoying their weekend by taking breakfast and lunch together with family in Chinese restaurant, I hope the group will consider to open a restaurant in Compass Point.
I hope employee from Crystal Jade Group will hear this message. I want to give comment to Crystal Jade but their website does not provide any area for leaving comment.

Crystal Jade fried rice is nice. The rice is fried till very crispy. My family have always visited them for their food at the Crystal Jade La Mian Xiao Long Bao, Orchard Road. But it is always packed with people on peak hours – We have to wait up to at least 30 minutes. The staffs are friendly and they are fast in serving food also.

I went to Crystal Jade today at IMM for Mother’s Day dinner.
Ordered: Kailan with oyster sauce, Ee-fu Noodles, Porkchop in tomato sauce and the fried egg.
Each of this dish cost $14 bucks. Knowing that it’s Mother’s Day, I thought it would be reasonable to jack up the prices. BUT! the servings were horribly little! For 4 people, there were only 4 porkchops, smaller than a palm size, and one thin slice of porkchop with a bone. Kailan wasn’t nice at all and it wasn’t worth the money. Ee-fu noodles and the fried egg was okay ONLY. Seriously, you can get these dishes anywhere. But I cant believe I had to pay $90 for 4 freaking dishes which I bet you can get similar ones at some ‘zicha’ store at a cheaper price.
Frankly speaking, after the dinner, we didn’t feel full at all. $14 bucks for each dish really isn’t worth it. Seriously. I regretted going, and I’m not going back. But Crystal Jade’s La Mian Xiao Long Bao would be a better choice.
Pissed off customer
May 20th, 2009 at 10:23 am
I will never visit Crystal Jade again, especially the Toa Payoh branch! The service is horrendous! I have never gone to a restaurant with such rude staff!
This middle aged captain on duty on 19 may 2009, about 830pm, asked if we are there to eat steamboat or what. we replied, we are there for the la mian and xiao long bao. She made a displeased expression and signalled for us to follow her. which we did, but she just rudely signalled for us to take one of the tables whilst she walked quickly on to pass the bill to another table. then she realise that she had pointed to an empty table that is meant for customers who are there to eat steamboat. so she TOLD us to change tables. we silently got up from the first table that we were already seated at. then she just pointed to another section and said, ‘na u all go sit there loh’.
so we sat down at the only table that was empty. again she came to us and gave us a very annoyed expression and said this table is also meant for steamboat. pls get up and go to another table.
the only other table in that section that was not occupied, has not even been cleared and has dirty plates strewn over the entire table.
Mind you, there was hardly anyone eating steamboat!! so why is she chasing the customer from table to table!
and when i politely requested NOT to change tables, she got so annoyed she raised her voice at us, and insisted that we change tables. annoyed, I told her that she’s being very rude and I dont wish to eat there anymore. she just turned and walked off to the door! ALL the other staff and captains just watched. no wonder all my colleagues are disgusted with the service level at CJ!
IF you have a specific table for me to sit at, you jolly well lead me to the table! and make sure that the table has already been cleared and properly set up! AND DO NOT EVER RAISE YOUR VOICE AT THE CUSTOMER! especially if the customer did not even raise the voice at you!
Thought I do them a service and provide some feedback on the website, but there’s NO email address or feedback mailbox available on their website. That itself should tell you about how they value their service standards, plainly put, non-existent!
I can plainly see that despite the fact that there are some many entries regarding poor service, there’s no response from the management either. pathetic!
So why pay for the service charge, since service is a non-existent word for them?
and the food, honestly, is not anything to rave about..any small eatery has the same standards

Re: Crystal Jade Kitchen at Ngee Ann City.
My friend and me had a very bad experience in your above outlet today. We are extremely disappointed with the service in a highly commendable restaurant.
We placed orders for 4 dishes of tim sum, and 2 main dishes (seafood hor fun and a soup: shark’s fin with dumpling ($48.80). To our surprise the 2 main dishes were served first. After a while, we enquired as to why the tim sum were not served and we got a rude reply that ‘tim sum has to be prepared, takes time’. And finally when the tim sum arrived we only got 2 out of 4 we ordered. Upon enquiry, your staff (not so sure of her rank, but in jacket suit) apologised that she had forgotten to place order for the other 2 dishes of tim sum. This is our experience at your restaurant today. You can be assured that we will not be back. Very disappointed.

Went to Toa Payoh Crystal Jade Branch today and had our dinner, everything was fine when I left something behind at the restaurant and left, until i was like about 5 mins walk away from the restaurant and i realised and went back to get my thing, it was actually a siew mai takeaway from the nearby Tiong Bahru Bao. When i went back the plastic bag was gone (is good that their tables clearing service is v fast) so i went to the waitress and ask if she saw a plastic bag which is on the table. So she went and take a look and say “I think is been thrown away already since the table is cleared.” Actually it was okay for me until another waitress in black coat (i guessed is the captain) came in to help coz dat previous waitress asked her for help. So she asked me what was the thing that I was looking for, so i told her is a takeaway siew mai, so she told me that it probably had been thrown away, so i ask her how, coz she don’t seem that she want to apologise for it and she went to the kitchen and took the plastic bag which is supposed to have been thrown away in the rubbish bin and give it to me. I was so shocked that she did that and i said is already thrown away in the rubbish bin right? and she say “yes, coz we thought you already finished and you don’t want it anymore.” and she said this while opening the plastic bag with 1 siew mai inside so i said “is not finish, there’s 1 in the plastic bag.” the captain still till this moment did not show any apologies and said “OK is from tiong bahru bao right?”(she’s looking at the plastic bag to see where i bought the siew mai from) and continue: “I’ll go buy 1 now and compensate you!” after saying this she told her staff to go to tiong bahru bao and get 1 for me…what kind of attitude is this? Is not that i want her to compensate me just a 60 cents siew mai (btw I spend much more than that at crystal jade pleaseeee) is the apologies that i want. In the end she still did not apologise and instead her colleague, apologise for her, so i told her colleague is ok and left. I think this particular “captain” should learn some customer service from her colleague.

Not stepping into crystal jade anymore. The new staff can’t communicate in english or any of the dialect groups. Unapologetic attitudes when mix-ups happen. 1 time we made a complaint to the manager and he asked the girl out to apologize, she took the opportunity to insult us. I am still in shock.

Hi, I am planning to have a group of 20-30pax having lunch at your place(causeway point). Could you please forward me some of your menu and how much is it per pax?
Thanks for your kind help.
